MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A Minot man convicted of killing his ex-wife by stabbing her 44 times in the neck, face and chest has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

A jury last December convicted 31-year-old Richie Wilder Jr. of murder in the November 2015 death of 30-year-old Angila Wilder as she slept in her bed. He was sentenced Thursday.

Wilder’s attorneys sought a sentence of 50 years in prison, with Wilder serving at least 30 years.

Judge Gary Lee called the slaying “a cold, calculated, cowardly act” before handing down the life term.
