SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe police have released video footage of the fatal shooting of a suspected car thief who jumped into an officer’s patrol car after authorities tried to arrest him.

The shooting happened April 29 after officers spotted a Mercedes that had been reported stolen in a driveway near the community of Eldorado.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (https://bit.ly/2pPbmv9) that Officer Leonard Guzman can be heard yelling at 33-year-old Andrew James Lucero to put his hands up and get on the ground.

Lucero puts his hands up and then suddenly runs to the patrol car.

The officer tries to pull him out as the engine revs. As the car moved forward, police say the officer was pinned between the car and a tree and fired one shot, hitting Lucero in the stomach.
