BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The FBI is now helping local investigators looking for an 8-year-old girl who wasn’t found in her South Carolina home after her mother was found dead.

Authorities said Ella Lowery’s body was found Friday morning in her Bennettsville home, but her daughter Iyana Lowery was not there.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown has not said how the mother died.

Marlboro County Sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Seals said in a news release that deputies have called state and federal authorities to help them find the girl.

Seals says investigators are also trying to determine if the girl’s disappearance meets the criteria for an Amber Alert.
