CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - The Latest on a Gary foster mother with murder in connection with the death of a 20-month-old girl (all times local):

4:25 p.m.

Court records say a Gary foster mother charged with murder in connection with the death of a 20-month-old girl told police she suffocated the child.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reported Monday (https://bit.ly/2qU5qzk ) a probable cause affidavit says 32-year-old Jamilia Hodge told officers she placed a hand over the mouth of Emma Salinas and held it there until she stopped breathing. It says she then rolled the girl onto her stomach and left the room. She found Emma dead Thursday morning.

The affidavit says an autopsy determined Emma died as a result of suffocation, complicated by blunt force trauma to the head

Hodge also was charged Saturday with aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Hodge is jailed without bond. It’s not clear if she has an attorney.

Authorities have charged a Gary foster mother with murder in connection with the death of a 20-month-old girl under her care.

Lt. Dawn Westerfield of the Gary Police Department says 32-year-old Jamilia Hodge also was charged with aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death Saturday in connection with the death of Emma Salinas.

Westerfield says officers found the child dead at her home Thursday after receiving a call about an unresponsive child.

Westerfield says the child was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner’s office, but the cause of death remains pending.

Hodge remained in the custody of the Lake County Jail on Monday. It wasn’t clear whether she has an attorney who might comment on her behalf.
