MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a Broward sheriff’s detention deputy is accused of running over a security guard’s foot during a search for his girlfriend’s lost cellphone.

Sun Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/2qKWKxW) 43-year-old Wendell Shepherd was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm.

According to an incident report, Shepherd was speeding toward the entrance gate of a parking lot and waved off the security guard’s signals to stop and then ran over the guard’s foot. Police say Shepherd was so caught up in the phone search that he never acknowledged the security guard’s injury.

Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion says Shepherd will be suspended with pay. He was hired in 2001.

It’s unclear if Shepherd has an attorney.
