BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A man wanted after police say he assaulted officers and drew a gun on them during a traffic stop last month has been arrested in Bridgeport.

Robert Bowens, of Bridgeport, faces numerous charges including assaulting a police officer.

State police say the 33-year-old Bowens attempted to flee during an April 22 stop on Interstate 95 after officers found illegal items in his car.

Police say Bowens drew a gun, which they were able to knock away during a struggle to detain him. They say he fled in an SUV after family members showed up at the scene.

Police say a multiagency investigation helped them find Bowen on Tuesday morning and he was taken into custody.

He was being held on $500,000 bond and could not be reached for comment.
