LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities have apprehended an inmate firefighter who walked away while assigned to a crew working on the remnants of a Southern California wildfire last month.

State corrections officials say Armando Castillo was taken back into custody late Tuesday at a motel in Los Angeles. Officials say a woman with him was arrested on suspicion of assisting Castillo throughout his escape.

The 31-year-old was among inmate crews working the so-called Canyon Fire 2 in Orange County. He walked away Oct. 15.
