NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities in New York City say a fire in Manhattan has damaged several stores and injured multiple firefighters.

The Fire Department of New York says it responded to the blaze in the Inwood section of Upper Manhattan around 10 a.m. Sunday. Officials say the fire spread through seven stores along the street.

FDNY Chief James Hodgens says the department used special two-tower ladders to put the fire out. About 140 firefighters were called to the scene.

Crews contained the fire by 12:40 p.m. Six firefighters suffered minor injuries. Officials say the stores were unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Authorities say most of the stores have been badly damaged.

Officials aren’t sure where or how the fire started. An investigation continues.
