Michigan Rep. John Conyers is in the hospital for a “stress-related” illness,  WXYZ reported on Thursday.

Mr. Conyers‘ family spokesman, Sam Riddle, said to reporters outside the Conyers’ home that the congressman is in the hospital and doing well for his advanced age. Mr. Conyers, a Democrat, is 88 years old.

Mr. Riddle said the accusations of sexual harassment have happened to Mr. Conyers before, but this time it’s causing stress that endangers his health.

“These serial accusers have done this before. We’re used to it. We don’t condone sexual harassment on any level, but we hope that you will pray for the congressman’s good health, and we hope that you will also understand that there is a bitter double-edge sword to those that would accuse, especially when they’re serial accusers,” Mr. Riddle told reporters.

Mr. Conyers allegedly paid a former staffer a settlement using taxpayer funds after she said he sexually harassed her while under his employment. A second accuser also came forward about inappropriate behavior from Mr. Conyers.
