HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says one of its officers struck and killed a pedestrian as he crossed a coastal highway in Half Moon Bay.

Authorities say the 74-year-old man was leaving a wedding reception at Sam’s Chowder House Saturday night when he was hit by a CHP patrol car on Highway 1, the main traffic corridor on the coastal town 20 miles south of San Francisco.

The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.

The CHP is investigating what caused the fatal accident.
