NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing swimmer off the coast of Fort Morgan, Alabama.

Authorities say a Coast Guard Station Destin boatcrew recovered one body at 6:22 p.m. Monday. A second body was found ashore and recovered by Fort Morgan Fire Rescue at noon Tuesday.

The two people reportedly entered the water about 5:30 p.m. Monday to help a person in distress. The person in distress made it back to shore, but the Coast Guard says the two good Samaritans did not.

Capt. Malcolm McLellan offered condolences to the families of the victims, whose names have not been released. He called it a “tragedy to suffer the loss of these two souls who died trying to save others.”
