BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - State agencies are trying to determine if a recent saltwater spill in northern North Dakota spread beyond the original location.

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified Monday of a release that happened Sept.24 about 12 miles northwest of Maxbass in Bottineau County.

Great American Royalties Inc. reported that 19,740 gallons of saltwater were released due to a tank overflow. The saltwater was recovered. The initial report indicated the incident was contained to the location, but Oil and Gas Division staff is working with staff from the North Dakota Department of Health to determine if the spill spread.
