LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police helping a woman involved in a domestic dispute shot a man, who they say charged officers while wielding a pellet gun.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that officers were helping a woman collect her belongings from a residence Wednesday night when the boyfriend returned.

Police Capt. Kelly McMahill says the man had previously threatened police, and he crashed his pickup into the back of an unoccupied police car as he arrived at the residence. He then shot the car several times with the pellet gun.

McMahill says the man then charged at officers as they were leaving the residence, and police fired upon the man.

The man who was not identified was shot in the lower abdomen. He was transported to hospital and is expected to survive.
