WAYNE, N.J. (AP) - A number of homes in New Jersey were evacuated after a SUV crashed into a gas line and sparked a leak.

Police say the driver of the SUV fled the scene after hitting a natural gas line in Wayne around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. WNBC-TV reports multiple homes had to be evacuated after emergency crews responded to shut off the gas.

People were allowed to return to their homes around 10:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported.

Authorities are searching for a white SUV with the word “Ramapo” on the side. Crews will return Monday morning to complete remaining repairs.
