A Kansas teacher was fired over racist comments about the Obamas. A Georgia teacher was fired for racist comment about Michelle Obama. Liz Phipps Soeiro, the Massachusetts elementary school librarian, got a slap on the wrist for her rants about first lady Melania Trump’s White House gift of Dr. Seuss books (“Elementary school librarian rejects books donated by Melania Trump.” Web, Sept. 28).

Is this a double standard? Mrs. Trump donated 10 books each to selected schools throughout America. The books are in recognition of National Read a Book Day. Ms. Soeiro snubbed the gift, saying they reflected “the systematic white supremacy in our institution” and are “racist propaganda.”

She compared the books to “blackface minstrelsy” — but posted on Facebook a photo of herself dressed as the Cat in the Hat at a Cambridge birthday party celebrating Dr. Seuss.

Have they added something to the water in Cambridge that turns people into hypocritical moon bats? If so, how did I miss it while attending a university there?
