GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been critically injured in a wreck on an interstate highway.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jimmy Bolt said in a news release the wreck happened on Interstate 385 near Greenville shortly before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Bolt said the trooper was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Highway Patrol Capt. Kelley Hughes said in a news release that Trooper Daniel K. Rebman was in critical condition.

Bolt said the trooper was parked in the emergency lane when a pickup truck hit the back of the patrol car. Bolt said no one else was hurt.

Deputies are investigating the wreck since it involved a trooper. Bolt said a decision on charges will be made later.

Hughes said Rebman has been with the patrol since September 2016.
