STOUGHTON, Mass. (AP) - A 26-year-old Massachusetts man has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in a 2016 fatal stabbing.
Keenan Brasfield was convicted Friday by a Norfolk Superior Court jury after pleading not guilty in the May 2016 killing of 36-year-old Erwins Albert.
Prosecutors say the two men fought after Albert entered Brasfield’s car mistakenly thinking his own keys were inside after the car was moved from a nearby tow yard.
Authorities say Brasfield fatally stabbed Albert and then fled.
Brasfield was initially indicted on a murder charge but was convicted of the lesser manslaughter charge.
Prosecutors say they respect the jury’s verdict but believe his actions constitute murder.
Brasfield is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 2 and faces up 20 years in prison. His lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
