KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Jackson County authorities have dropped a felony charge against a man suspected of killing two Missouri women who disappeared nearly a decade apart.

Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Friday that the county will drop a knowingly burning a vehicle charge against 29-year-old Kylr Yust. The decision comes after Cass County authorities announced Thursday they were charging Yust with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 17-year-old Jessica Runions and 21-year-old Kara Kopetsky.

The burning charge was filed after Runions’ vehicle was found in flames shortly after she disappeared in September 2016. Kopetsky disappeared in April 2007. Their remains were found in April in a wooded area near Belton.

Yust is being held on $1 million bond. He was taken from Jackson County jail to Cass County Friday.
