SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say an Alpine man has died after being struck on the head by debris dropped from a helicopter in the Iron County area.

Crews on Saturday were conducting aerial drops of straw mulch over the burn scar left by the human-caused Brian Head Fire in July.

The Deseret News (https://bit.ly/2g3rFlI ) reports that a 58-year-old crew member was on the ground below the drops, calling out locations to drop the mulch when he was hit by falling debris.

Iron County Sheriff’s officials say helicopter pilot noticed the injured man and contacted another ground crew, which called 911.

The man’s name is being withheld until his relatives are notified.

Since an aircraft was involved in the industrial accident, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
