OCEAN SHORES, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a 70-year-old woman was found dead after a fire swept through her home in Ocean Shores.

KOMO-TV reported Monday (https://goo.gl/s93f8L ) that only one firefighter was available to respond to the weekend blaze because the other four on duty were taking emergency aid patients to an Aberdeen hospital.

The fire captain was helped by two police officers, two State Patrol troopers and a sheriff’s deputy.

Ocean Shores Fire Department Lt. Corey Kuhl said one firefighter wasn’t enough but couldn’t say if the outcome would have been different if more resources had been available.

The woman’s neighbor, Steven Monson, told the television station that he thought the fire was too intense for possible rescue.

Ocean Shores Mayor Crystal Dingler says the city has struggled with funding the fire department.
