JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Jefferson City man pleaded guilty to possessing firearms he stole during several home burglaries.

Federal prosecutors say 22-year-old Stephan Alben Whelan pleaded guilty Thursday to being an illegal drug user in possession of firearms.

Whelan was arrested in December 2016 in Cole County after numerous burglaries were reported in several mid-Missouri counties from September 2016 to December 2016.

Whelan told officers that he and other people committed so many burglaries that he couldn’t remember where or when specific items were taken. He traded the stolen items for methamphetamine. Several firearms were among numerous stolen items recovered by law enforcement officers.
