BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Louisiana woman accused of killing her brother’s pregnant girlfriend and unborn child has been arrested.

The Advocate reports deputies arrested the 32-year-old Wednesday after finding the 24-year-old who was eight months pregnant stabbed to death Tuesday evening in Arnaudville.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Maj. Ginny Higgins says Toni Trimble Thomas faces second-degree charges of murder and feticide in the slaying of Ashley Nichole Meche.

Higgins says there weren’t further details on the attack or the weapon used. She says deputies didn’t know a motive for the killing but are continuing to investigate.

Investigators say Thomas’ brother and Meche’s boyfriend, Mark Trimble, wasn’t involved in the attack although he’d been detained and questioned.

Thomas was booked into the Parish Correctional Center. It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
