EASLEY, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man who police found passed out has been charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.

The Greenville News reports that Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputies found 28-year-old Adam Dean Smith passed out behind the wheel in a car outside a convenience store on Wednesday around 2 a.m., wearing a Greenville County Sheriff’s Office T-shirt. He was armed at the time.

Sgt. Ryan Flood says investigating deputies discovered Smith didn’t conceal the pistol he was carrying on his side while in the store, and that he may have acted in a law enforcement capacity with an individual. Flood says Dean isn’t an officer and has never been employed with the sheriff’s office.
