JACKSON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man has been convicted of a deadly shooting in Cape Girardeau.
The Southeast Missourian reports that jurors found 26-year-old Malcolm Harris guilty Thursday of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence.
Prosecutors say Harris shot 28-year-old Domorlo McCaster in the back of the head as they sat in a sport utility vehicle with two other men in May 2016. McCaster’s body was found near a park.
Relatives and friends of the victim cheered the verdict after leaving the courtroom. The victim’s father, Eugene Lester Jr. of Cape Girardeau, said the verdict was “justice” and will get Harris “off the street.” Lester says his son was caught up in the violent drug culture.
Sentencing is set for Nov. 17.
