DALLAS (AP) - A man accused of being a leader in a Mexican drug cartel has pleaded guilty to drug charges relating to that role.
Arnoldo Rueda-Medina (roo-EH’-dah-meh-DEE’-nah) was known as “La Minsa” in the La Familia Michoacana (mihk-wah-KAHN’-ah) cartel. He pleaded guilty in a Dallas federal court Friday to two conspiracy counts, one to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and the other to launder money. He could face 10 years to life in prison the drug conspiracy and up to 20 years in prison for the money-laundering conspiracy. Sentencing is set for Dec. 27.
The charges stem from a 2010 indictment that accused the 47-year-old Rueda-Medina and 13 others of shipping drugs from Mexico to North Texas and using proceeds to rent residences in Texas to store the drugs.
