PIEDMONT, Ala. (AP) - A man has died after being shot by a deputy in Alabama.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade says the shooting involving one of his officers happened about 4:45 a.m. Monday in the northeastern city of Piedmont.

Wade says a deputy went to a residence after the sheriff’s office received a call about a person acting suspiciously.

Wade says deputy encountered a man who had been living outside a house since his car broke down. The sheriff says the man told the deputy about 10 days ago he was getting psychiatric help.

Wade says a struggle occurred and the man got one of the deputy’s weapons. The deputy then fired, killing the man.

Authorities haven’t released the name of either person.

Wade says it doesn’t appear the deputy did anything wrong.
