HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 5-year-old boy in South Carolina.

Darlington County Sheriff’s Lt. Robby Kilgo said in a news release that 29-year-old Rodney Thomas Pittman Jr. of Hartsville was arrested in the shooting death Friday.

Pittman is also charged with possession of a gun by a convicted felon. He’s being held in the Darlington County jail. It was not known if he has an attorney.

Investigators think Pittman fired a gun that struck and injured a 5-year-old boy early Friday morning. The boy died Saturday afternoon. His name has not been released.
