FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian has been killed in Flagstaff after getting struck by a train.

Flagstaff police say the accident occurred early Monday.

They say a man in his 40s was walking on the sidewalk of San Francisco Street just after midnight.

There are no crossing arms for southbound walkers and police believe the man didn’t recognize that the train was coming because he was described by witnesses as having his head down.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tested the lights and horns after the collision and confirmed they were working.

Police say the name of the man killed is being withheld until his family can be notified.
