SALEM, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon man was acquitted of rape and sexual abuse charges earlier this year, but now finds himself behind bars after being sentenced to eight years and four months for allegations that he raped a different victim.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/2ffWx1R ) that 34-year-old Christopher Gerig was sentenced on Monday. A jury convicted him of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse.

Gerig, a former registered nurse, was acquitted of three rape-related charges after a judge decided that prosecutors failed to meet the required burden of proof. He was then accused of rape again, which led to his sentencing.

Court documents state Gerig pulled down a woman’s pants while she was asleep at a party and began having sex with her before she pushed him away and contacted police.
