ROY, Utah (AP) - Weber County Attorney Chris Allred says the fatal shooting of an armed 38-year-old man by two Roy police officers was justified.
Allred says in a letter that officers Cash Ricks and Robert Jackson had reason to believe deadly force was necessary when they encountered Nicolas Sanchez of Layton on Feb. 21. According to the letter, Ricks reported Sanchez had pointed a gun to his face while officers attempted to subdue him.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2fjbAIh ) Ricks managed to take Sanchez’s gun and used it to fire three shots at Sanchez. Jackson fired several more shots at Sanchez. He was declared dead at the scene.
The officers were unharmed.
Roy City lawyer Heather White says Ricks and Jackson returned to work “quite some time ago”.
