CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming police officer is expected to recover after he was shot in the foot allegedly by a suspect who grabbed a second officer’s rifle during a domestic disturbance call, authorities said Saturday.

Joseph Jacquez, 27, was arrested for domestic battery, disarming a police officer and aggravated assault on a police officer and domestic battery, the Cheyenne Police Department said.

Officers had responded to the Friday evening disturbance call at a 6th Street residence with rifles drawn because the caller had indicated Jacquez might have a shotgun, Cheyenne Police spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta said.

When officers attempted to arrest Jacquez, authorities said he pulled an officer into the house and other officers followed and attempted to detain the suspect.

During an ensuing scuffle, Jacquez grabbed an officer’s rifle and shot another officer, Lt. Jared Keslar, in the foot, Malatesta said. No one else was injured.

Keslar was treated at the Cheyenne Medical Center and released.

Jacquez was being held Saturday at the Laramie County Jail and could not be reached for comment.
