SMITHFIELD, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia are investigating the deaths of an 80-year-old woman and her son during an apparent home invasion.
Media outlets reported Sunday that the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 80-year-old Nancy Starnes and 58-year-old Kenneth Starnes.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Tommy Potter said in a news release that family members contacted authorities Saturday after seeing what looked like a forced entry at the home in Smithfield, and deputies found their bodies.
Authorities said they appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. A medical examiner will conduct autopsies.
Investigators are looking for two vehicles missing from the residence: a gray 2010 Ford F-150 and a beige 2001 Chrysler van. No suspect information has been released.
