SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a northern Utah couple wounded after a gunman rammed their home with his car returned fire and killed the man in self-defense.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said Monday they’re investigating why the shooter targeted the couple in Garden City, near Bear Lake.

The 62-year-old woman and 72-year-old man are expected to recover from their wounds.

The names of those involved in the shooting at Sweetwater Trailer Park have not been identified. The Rich County Sheriff’s Office has said the shooting was originally reported as a suicidal man with a gun firing into homes.

The sheriff’s office and a state crime scene team are investigating the shooting.

Garden City is about 120 miles north of Salt Lake City.
