NEW YORK (AP) - A former New York City police officer has been sentenced to 5 and ½ years in prison for running a prostitution ring in the metro area, often ferrying women to various motels as soon as his police shift ended.

Federal prosecutors say 35-year-old Eduardo Cornejo, of Staten Island, was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of a minor. He also received five years of supervised release and was required to register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors say Cornejo transported at least 10 different prostitutes, including a 16-year-old girl, to motels in Staten Island, Long Island and New Jersey. He was placed under surveillance in 2015 following an anonymous tip.
