Officials oppose plan to turn school into community center

WILMINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Several Vermont Select Board members say they are opposed to a plan to turn a former high school into a community center.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (https://bit.ly/2ystoV7 ) the Wilmington Select Board discussed the project after the volunteer group that is buying the school requested close to $100,000 for renovations.

Select Board Chairman Tom Fitzgerald says he is opposed to the town sending money to the old Twin Valley High School, calling it a “horrible building.” Select Board member Vince Rice says he feels the building is past its point of “diminishing return.”

The Twin Valley School board approved the sale of the school to the Old School Enrichment Center Council in June.

Steve Goldfarb, member of the volunteer group, says they want the town’s approval before buying the building.
