CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Officials in one of Wyoming’s largest school districts propose to close four schools due to declining enrollment.

The enrollment drop in the Natrona County School District in Casper results from a downturn in the oil and gas industry.

District officials said Friday they recommend closing Frontier Middle School and University Park, Willard and Mountain View elementary schools at the end of the academic year.

The Casper Star Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2x4zXRC ) the school board will consider the proposal at a meeting Oct. 23. District officials say they hope to avoid laying off teachers if the schools are closed.
