CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A house painter is facing charges for allegedly stealing jewelry valued at $125,000 from a home he was painting.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 42-year-old Christopher Johnson was charged Thursday with one felony count of stealing. He is jailed on $40,000 bond and does not yet have an attorney.

Police say in court documents that Johnson took jewelry from a home in Clarkson Valley. Among the stolen items were a wedding band and diamond tennis necklace with a combined value of $71,000.

The police report says Johnson told his employer that he sold the jewelry to support his opiate addiction.
