ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Some political analysts see the departure of House Speaker Paul Ryan as problematic for the Republicans. I beg to differ.

I strongly believe Ryan’s leaving is a blessing for President Trump in the upcoming midterm elections. History indicates that midterm elections don’t favor the incumbent president and party. Thankfully the 2010 Tea Party blueprint is already there for the GOP.

It is going to be hard for the Republicans to get voters to turn out for them, due in large part to the failure to repeal and replace Obamacare. Mr. Trump can energize the party base and help get Republican voters to come out and vote, but he can’t do it with some of these congressional Republicans, who promised a lot and now are having second thoughts. Many of them don’t have the guts to do as Jeff Flake and Paul Ryan have done and not seek reelection. More of them need to do the honorable thing.

Mr. Trump needs in place Republicans who can push his agenda.
