TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A western Indiana prosecutor has cleared officers in the fatal shooting of a murder suspect who was involved in a two-day standoff.
Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt said Wednesday the officers were justified in the March 6 killing of 36-year-old Michael R. Reynolds and when an officer shot at him the previous day.
The Tribune-Star reports Modesitt says officers knew Reynolds had fatally shot his 40-year-old ex-girlfriend and wounded a man on March 5.
Officers fatally shot the armed man the next day after Reynolds ignored their orders to stop while leaving a house where he’d been holed up.
A 47-year-old man is charged with assisting Reynolds during the standoff. He allegedly harbored Reynolds in his home and took him to a store to buy a cellphone and other items.
