MALDEN, Mass. (AP) - An 86-year-old woman rescued from a burning home by a Massachusetts police officer says she owes her life to the officer’s quick response.

Margaret Hammersley was upstairs at her home in Malden on Wednesday when her daughter ran up and said the home was on fire. Hammersley says the next thing she knew, a Malden police officer was guiding her out of the building.

Hammersley was given oxygen when she got out, but was unharmed. She says she might have died if the officer had not come along.

Hammersley’s son says that another woman, a man and a six-year-old child also escaped the home safely.
