MENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say the bodies of two men have been found following a fire at a home in southwestern Michigan.

The fire was reported early Wednesday in St. Joseph County’s Mendon Township and firefighters worked for several hours to put it out. The Sturgis Journal reports one body was found in the basement of the home and the other was found on the first floor.

Mendon Township Fire Chief Al Avery tells WWMT-TV that the fire was burning so intensely when they arrived that firefighters were kept from immediately going inside.

Names of the dead weren’t immediately released. The St. Joseph County sheriff’s department says the home was owned by an area dairy farm where the men worked.

Michigan State Police say the cause of the fire wasn’t immediately determined.
