TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man is being held in jail without bond for allegedly stabbing another man during a road rage confrontation initiated by stray spit.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that a judge on Saturday refused to release Teddy Baltimore Smith on bail.
Smith has been charged with second-degree murder for an incident that occurred three days earlier.
Authorities say that Gilbert Serna, a passenger in a green Dodge Ram, spit out the window while at a stop light. The spit may have landed on Smith’s black BMW, which was also stopped.
Smith allegedly argued with Serna, then got of his car and hit him with a flip-flop and threatened to shoot him. He then reportedly pulled out a small knife and plunged it into Serna’s chest.
Smith was arrested a day later.
