CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia House of Delegates is reconvening next week to elect a speaker to succeed Republican Tim Armstead, who resigned to run for the Supreme Court.
Speaker Pro Tem John Overington called the delegates back into session at 9 a.m. next Wednesday.
Armstead resigned Tuesday to seek one of two seats vacated by Menis Ketchum and Robin Davis as the justices were being investigated. Ketchum resigned before impeachment proceedings began in the House. Davis and the three remaining justices were impeached last week and face Senate proceedings next month.
Besides Armstead, nine others have filed to run for Ketchum’s seat. Ten people have filed to run for Davis’ seat.
The impeachment probe was sparked by questions involving more than $3 million in renovations to the justices’ offices and expanded to accusations of corruption, incompetence and neglect of duty.
