RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Federal prosecutors have charged five foreign nationals with multiple crimes stemming from a bribery and kickback scheme, and a murder-for-hire plot.

U.S. Attorney Robert Higdon Jr. said in a news release Wednesday 57-year-old Leonid Teyf is charged with bribing a public official and planning a murder-for-hire, among other charges. Teyf is also charged with multiple counts of money laundering in conspiracy with his wife, 41-year-old Tatyana Teyf.

An indictment says that since at least December 2010, the Teyfs and others opened at least 70 financial accounts at four financial institutions and received at least 294 wires totaling approximately $39.5 million into accounts held in the names of Leonid Teyf and the co-conspirators.

Higdon said the murder-for-hire plot involved a man Leonid Teyf believed was having an affair with his wife.
