DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia teacher is facing charges after surveillance video captured him stealing a violin from one of his students.

WSB-TV reports police said the teacher confessed.

Investigators say Brockett Elementary School teacher Kalif Jones allegedly made his move while students were eating lunch in the DeKalb County school’s cafeteria.

The criminal investigation began in late November after a 9-year-old student came home without his instrument. The violin is valued at $750. Police said the child’s mother reported it stolen to the school’s principal. School administrators reviewed surveillance video that showed the 21-year-old teacher taking the violin.

Police arrested Jones after he admitted stealing the violin because he had recently received a $700 ticket and needed some money to help pay for it. It’s unknown if he has an attorney.
