WINDER, Ga. (AP) - State police are investigating after sheriff’s deputies in Georgia say they found a man with a gunshot wound in a car they had chased.

Barrow County Sheriff’s Capt. Ryan Sears told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Winder Police Department had tried to pull over a motorist for a suspended registration Sunday and deputies took over the chase when the suspect drove away.

Sears says the suspect got caught in traffic and became stuck in some mud at a construction area. Sears says deputies approached the car and found a man with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has not been released.

Sears said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is helping with the case.
