Navy beat Army in both men’s and women’s basketball Saturday, sweeping their annual Star Games in West Point, N.Y.

The men won 68-59, led by senior Shawn Anderson’s 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Evan Wieck, Hasan Abdullah and Tom Lacey all scored in double figures for the Midshipmen as well.

Taylor Dunham posted 18 points, four assists and four steals to lead the women’s team to a 55-46 victory, the Mids’ fifth straight win over their rivals.

“Really excited about the win,” Navy women’s coach Stefanie Pemper said after the game. “No matter how ugly a Star Game win is, it is still a win.”

When Army and Navy play each other more than once a season in a given sport, one game is designated as the Star Game. The winning team earns the star for that year, especially important for the academies’ rivalry.

The success was especially welcome for Navy after the Mids lost to Army on the gridiron in December, 14-13, for Army’s second straight win in the football rivalry.
