BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police say an officer was severely wounded by a Louisiana man who fired shots into his marked vehicle.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. tells The Advocate the officer is expected to survive. WBRZ-TV reports the unnamed officer was the only person hurt.
Officers had been called to a shooting Sunday night and determined 34-year-old Eugene Thomas Jr. had fired shots at his family.

Coppola says Thomas shot the officer when he approached in his police vehicle. Thomas surrendered to officers after a short chase.
Thomas was charged with several counts including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
Thomas was found not guilty “by reason of insanity” in a 2002 fatal shooting. His probation was terminated in October 2017.
