GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - An inmate who authorities say complained of flu-like symptoms has died at a North Carolina jail.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports that 49-year-old Daryl Augustus Carter of Savannah, Georgia, was found unresponsive Sunday night at the Alamance County Detention Center. A release from the county sheriff’s office says Burlington police arrested Carter on Feb. 6 on a fugitive from justice charge, and he was placed in isolation when he complained of flu-like symptoms.

Carter could not be resuscitated.

The State Bureau of Investigation and county medical examiner are investigating his death.

He had waived extradition and was awaiting transfer back to Georgia.
