Luciano Acosta’s late goal lifted DC United over Philadelphia Union, 2-1, in the two teams’ opening match of the 2018 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational.

Cory Burke tied the game for Philadelphia in the 88th minute, but Acosta turned around and nailed the deciding goal one minute later.

Darren Mattocks scored the match’s first goal in the 14th minute for United, assisted by Zoltán Stieber.

The match was played at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida. The United Soccer League club Tampa Bay Rowdies are hosting the preseason tournament, and New York City FC and Montreal Impact are also in Florida for the tournament.

Six new signings played in United’s starting 11 against Philadelphia: Mattocks, Yamil Asad, Frédéric Brillant, Oniel Fisher, Júnior Moreno and Ulises Segura.

United will play one more match in the invitational, Wednesday against Jacksonville Armada FC of the North American Soccer League.
